SAY IT LOUD, a national initiative designed to combat anti-Black racism.
Thursday, November 7, 2019 – Toronto, ON – Urban Rez Solutions Social Enterprise (URSSE) has been funded by the Government of Canada and their National Anti-Black Racism Education and Awareness Campaign (NABREAC) to launch and execute SAY IT LOUD, a national initiative designed to combat anti-Black racism.
SAY IT LOUD is a national challenge that will engage Black youth in promoting Black pride and positive cultural identity through performance art, visual art, design, technology, storytelling, and community initiatives. The goal is to identify top tier talent making a positive impact in communities across Canada. SAY IT LOUD will celebrate Canadian Black identity and raise awareness among all Canadians bringing to light the effects of anti-Black racism.
Project activities include the creation of a bilingual digital engagement platform, regional tours promoting the national challenge and outreach to youth, encouraging them to participate. A national summit will be held in Ottawa in February 2021 where winners will be announced.
SAY IT LOUD will reach out to Black communities, with an emphasis on Black youth, in the following locations: Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Windsor, the Greater Toronto/Hamilton Area, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax.
Over a period of eighteen months, Urban Rez Solutions Social Enterprise will partner with community stakeholders who service and focus on supporting Black youth.
“We are excited at the prospect of working with Black community stakeholders and talented young creatives to address this important issue from an empowered youth perspective and bring the importance of Cultural Pride and Cultural Identity to light, in this, the Decade of People of African Descent as declared by the United Nations.”, states Roderick Brereton and Farley Flex, co-founders of Urban Rez Solutions Social Enterprise.
